It’s January so I can pretend like I’m still going to follow through with my New Year’s Resolutions. One of those resolutions was to be more put together and for some reason I see day-to-day lipstick as the key to pulling my life together. Don’t ever let anyone tell you I don’t have goals!
Now, I am a HUGE fan of bright reds and deep maroons and even an occasional bright orange however that tends to not translate into the workplace well (unless you work for a fashion/beauty company – you lucky devils, you). So enter in the nudes! I have done a fair amount of trial and error in the pursuit for a daytime nude and let me tell you do NOT go matte. As much as I love matte lipstick, if it’s a nude matte you will legitimately look like you’ve stepped out of a 90s hot tub time machine with frosted lips. Stick to a sheer with a slight sheen or a gloss.
When choosing a nude lip, it’s also important to take your own skintone into consideration. I am a fair skinned so colors with pink undertones work well for me. If you’re at a loss on what to choose, one key point is to ensure the color is not lighter than your skin.
While not as unforgiving as a red lip, lipstick is still highlighting your mouth so prep your lips with a scrub or primer. An added benefit to a creme lipstick is that it will not dry your skin out quite as much.
I still line my lips even when going nude. I paired it with Smashbox’s Always Sharp Liner in Nude Fair:
This helps to lock in the color and prevent bleeding. If you go the Kylie Jenner route (the non-surgical kind, that is) and overline your lips, this product is a dream.
Once lined, apply your lipstick and voila! You look put together and charming…now if only I would wake up in time to try and style my hair, we’d be getting somewhere.
Not as long lasting as I would have hoped. With a matte lip, I feel a little more confident in my color staying put but with the creme and lightness of this nude, it doesn’t seem to want to stay around.
