Battle of the Beauty: Gel Eyeliner

Cat-eye or winged liner: a rose by any other name would still be as sweet.

No matter what you call it, it’s a classic makeup look to add to your beauty repertoire. It’s not the easiest thing to perfect but if you have the right tools and the right instruction, it’s gets better and better until you’re a proper artist who is swiping a line, flicking it out and sprinting for your bus because you’re late!

Now, let’s git it on!

Screen Shot 2014-05-15 at 10.51.46 PMThis product was my first foray into the world of gel liners and when I first purchased it it came with the BEST brush EVER (ugh, I can’t say that without singing One Direction Best Song EVER…I need to seek help immediately). So it comes in multiple colors as you can see above but I prefer to stick with black as my soul and if you’re going for a classic look it is seriously the only way to go.

Get yourself a good eyeliner brush if you don’t already own one. [Sidebar: next week I think it will be best if we do a simple brush tutorial soo stay tuned for that!] From there, dip into the pot and carefully line that ink onto your lid. It goes on smoothly and will last ALL day long.

Seriously, that industrial strength eye makeup remover you needed for Dior Diorshow Black Out mascara? Welp, you’re gonna need it for this too.

One horrid day while out shopping, I forgot what kind of gel liner I used so I bought this instead. Uh, best f’n mistake of my LIFE.

Again, we’ve got some color options but again I go for the black. It doesn’t look as dark or smooth as Smashbox but it’s all about the application. This little gem comes with a two-sided brush: one side razor thin and the other thicker and flatter for a more aggressive line or it can be used to smudge.

The gel goes on silky smooth and while I must confess, I have no idea what Amazonian clay is I’m fully on board with Tarte throwing it into their products because it usually ends up being a winner. The color is so smooth and dark and refuses to budge once it’s on your lid.

Bonus (?) some of the colors are Vegan…so if you’re hungry but don’t want to eat animal products, this is the liner for you!

Sweet baby Batman, I cannot say enough good things about this product. So much so it’s getting Godfather’d – that’s right! I’ve done it, it’s a first ballot Hall of Famer and I want you to buy it right meow.

These Battle of the Beauty’s are so hard for me because I honestly love both products, both brands but when I really sit down to write them, I figure out who my favorite child is. We’re on this journey together, my friends – so open up your wallet, it’s going to be an expensive ride.
